Rocks at Aburi Mountain are tumbling because of heavy development, according to a geologist

Rocks are falling from the Aburi highlands as a result of extensive building operations, according to Dr. Prince Ofori Amponsah, a geologist from the University of Ghana (UG).

Rocks reportedly sliding onto the road from the Aburi hills have been reported, presenting a hindrance for drivers that use that route.

According to Dr. Amponsah, despite the installation of wire mesh to protect the rocks, human activities have led to the loss of vegetative cover, exposing the delicate minerals.

There is some instability in these rocks. We have foliage cover on them, so initially they shouldn’t have been an issue. These weak materials have, however, been exposed as a result of the building we did. And because to their inherent fragility, the weak materials we have exposed throughout time will continue to emerge from their original locations. I can confirm that the rocks have some kind of mesh covering.

“We cover some of the boulders with a wire mesh to keep the rocks from falling. According to Dr. Ofori Amponsah, after the road is built, the area starts to degrade and people keep building on the mountain’s summit, which exposes the weak rocks below the surface.

To stop other calamities, he pleaded with the administration to act quickly.

“This issue won’t be resolved unless the government steps in to ensure that people adhere to construction laws and standards while they are building. This issue is going to endure, the geologist said, while taking into account the type of geology that exists there.
